A Legal Toolkit for Independent Producers
Not so fast. Before you pick up the camera, refer to this book for all the legal issues that may pop up before, during and after the filming. This book covers everything from copyright issues to distribution of your film and what you need to know about each aspect of the contracts you sign.
While you won't find the actual contracts in the book itself, ESQ. Crowell gives you the knowledge of what to look for when you create or sign any document in the film industry. He red flags items that could very well cost you thousands of dollars if you sign without knowing your rights. He also gives information for creating or editing your contracts with talent, crew, locations and permits.
While most type of contracts can be found online, this book will help you understand the terminology used and whether the document needs to be edited to preserve your sanity and your dollars.
Of course, having the benefit of an entertainment attorney would be the absolute best option, small indie filmmakers often cannot afford them. Which is why, for less than 40 bucks this book is so important. You will refer to it again and again, during the filmmaking process.
